No matter what your facts of life are. No matter what you have experienced or what you have gone through. They have absolutely no bearing on your Beauty, your Value or your Significance. These stories will show you that. ~Tonya Joyner-Scott, Visionary of SHINE

Share your overall experience working on the SHINE project.

My experience on the SHINE project was absolutely life changing. It has given me life, liberty, strength, hope and a newfound family of powerful sisters. This bond has allowed me to truly see the inner me, that one who wanted/want to help others even at the expense of sacrificing herself. It has honestly helped me come to the understanding that I can’t help anyone until I myself am free.

Why did you feel/believe that the time was “now” to release your story?

The time was now to share my story because I fully understood that my encounter in life was not only a trial and victory for me, it was for others too. Therefore, sharing my story with full transparency was the opportunity to reach those who are, have been, or may find themselves in similar situations — to give them hope.

How has your story release impacted you, and how will it impact others?

It has changed my life forever because it has confirmed that my healing is sure, purpose is fulfilling, destiny is unfolding, and the path I’m on is the one God has ordained for me to walk out.

My story will impact others by showing them that though there may be issues, struggles, and tests in their lives, God will absolutely turn it around for their good, and it will become a tool for them to share their stories. It will reach the hurting and assist in bringing healing and hope to them.

Share a summary of your SHINE story.

My SHINE story is about a time in my life when low self-esteem was my middle name. When inferiority accompanied me everywhere, and becoming or doing anything purposeful was far beyond my reach, that included being the best mother too.

It takes you on a journey during a time where church, marriage, motherhood, came to a huge collision. Defeat seemed to be my expected end, and no one could see that I was bleeding out. These were all of my tests, but my story concludes with the Jeremiah 29:11 “expected end” because God sent people into my life that would encourage, pray, speak life, and pulled on (activated) my giftings that included music, song, prayer, and hospitality. This literally revived me and gave me a different point of view concerning how God saw me, and the wonderful things He had in store not only for me, but for my children also. This allowed me to see the light, and now I have become a light for many.

What are three (3) takeaways that you want the reader to know?

1. Don’t allow hurt to consume you. Rather look within to see where you have contributed by allowing others to have power over you and correct that.

2. See yourself as God sees you — beautiful, full of life, purpose and destiny. Affirm daily that you are who God says you are, even if you’re a work in progress.

3. Set and be the example you want to see others become. Remain humble, transparent, caring, strong, focused and ready to SHINE.
